Olivier Giroud is ready to fight Alexis Sanchez for a starting role at Arsenal despite admitting that he has slipped down the pecking order for Arsene Wenger.
Giroud returned late for the start of the season following a run to the Euro 2016 final with France, and a further toe injury has seen Sanchez take the main striker role in Wenger's preferred 4-2-3-1 formation.
The Chile forward has impressed with eight goals and seven assists in all competitions for Arsenal to keep Giroud out of the side, but the Frenchman is confident in his ability to push Sanchez for starts as the season wears on.
Speaking to Telefoot following France's 2-1 World Cup qualifying win over Sweden on Saturday, Giroud said: "I do not have any doubts about my future at Arsenal.
"There is always competition for places. There are a lot of attackers at every big club.
"At the moment, the coach prefers Sanchez up front, also because I have been injured. I just hope to get playing time again now.
"Alexis and I are different types of attackers and the coach has to make a decision.
"But I intend to come back even stronger."
Giroud may be handed a chance should Sanchez return from international duty feeling the effects of a "low-grade" hamstring injury suffered in training.
Wenger has urged Chile not to make a "suicidal decision" by playing an injured Sanchez against Uruguay on Tuesday, telling beIN Sports: "The team from Chile has travelled without him and they kept him to try and get him fit to play Uruguay for the second game on Tuesday night.
"I believe that with a hamstring injury, we have to get access for our medical staff to the MRI scan to see what grade it is, how bad it is and make absolutely sure that they do not make any suicidal decision that could harm his future for two or three months.
"That is absolutely important. It’s a grey area between the national team and the club team and of course they look at their own results, which I can understand but we have to preserve the health of Alexis Sanchez.
"He always wants to play and that’s where it is a more sensitive case because he’s always ready to play even when injured."*
