Kieran Gibbs suffers injury setback

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger confirms that Kieran Gibbs attempts to recover have suffered a setback.

The talented left-back underwent surgery for a hernia problem back in November and the Gunners boss was eager to have the 22-year-old England man back in time for the festive fixtures.

"Kieran Gibbs has unfortunately had a setback and he is not back yet," Wenger told the club's official website.

"It's very disappointing because we had good hope that he would be back for tomorrow's game [away to Aston Villa], but he is not available."

Wenger’s options have been boosted with goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski and young attacking option Ryo Miyaichi close to a return to action.

Wenger added: "Ryo is joining in normal training on Friday, so he is completely back from injury.

"Fabianski has practised today [Tuesday] and should be available for next week."
