Lehmann Back To Arsenal

Jens Lehmann
An old-crack goalkeeper Jens Lehmann has finally officially rejoining Arsenal for a short contract until the end of the season. He will be a reserve for Manuel Almunia after three others Arsenal keeper suffered injuries so could not play until the end of the season.

"The short-term contract for Jens Lehmann is very valuable for us. He will be a good asset at crucial moments in this season," said Arsene Wenger, Arsenal manager.

Lehmann himself feel very happy to be reunited with his former club. "I am very glad to be back to join Arsenal. Arsenal has a special place in my heart. I have many beautiful memories at this club," he said. He expressed readiness to help Arsenal won the title back. "I can not wait to start working with this team again, and I hope to contribute as much as I can, both inside and outside the field."

Lehmann (now 41 years) is the main Arsenal goalkeeper in the 2003-2008 periods. He
replaced the position of Arsenal legendary goalkeeper David Seaman, who is also England national team goalkeeper. Lehman itself is the main goalkeeper for the German national team in World Cup 2006 and Euro 2008.

In his first year with Arsenal, Lehmann has played in all 38 games during the 2003-2004 Premier League Arsenal's unbeaten champion (The Invincible). Lehmann himself was awarded the Premier League Golden Glove Award as the best goalkeeper. He also brought the Gunners as 2005 FA Cup champion after beat Manchester United in the final, where he was able to thwart Paul Scholes penalty kick.

The decision to pull back Jens Lehmann had to be done by the Arsenal because
it’s three senior goal keepers has injured and should be sidelined until the end of the season. They are Lukasz Fabianski, Wojciech Szczesny dan Vito Mannone. Mannone is currently on loan to Hull City.

Lehmann has actually retired from football last year, after his contract with VfB Stuttgart out. So many doubted whether Lehmann still have a reflex that is required by a goalkeeper in high level competitions like the Premier League. But Arsene Wenger is optimistic that Lehmann would be a good backup for Almunia.
