Hard To Explain Diaby Injury

Abou Diaby picked up a calf strain against Wigan

Arsène Wenger admits Abou Diaby’s latest injury setback is a difficult one to explain.

Diaby has missed the majority of this season with an ankle injury and just when he looked to be nearing full fitness he has again been sidelined, this time by a calf strain.

The midfielder limped out of Wednesday’s 2-2 draw at Wigan after just 27 minutes and Wenger isn’t sure why he sustained the injury or how best to treat it.

“It's something we cannot explain,” said the manager. “It was cold but not freezing cold. The pitch was heavier than we were used to. It was a bit difficult. It was early in the game so we cannot say it's fatigue.

"It's not the leg where he got the ankle injury, it's the other side. So, does he compensate or not? He has long ‘levers’.

“We sometimes had that problem with Patrick Vieira but maybe not as much as Diaby. It's difficult to know why.”*
