Wenger: Gibbs is better than we expected

Kieran Gibbs is making encouraging progress from his ankle injury, according to Arsène Wenger.

The left back was stretchered off against Partizan in midweek, adding to an unfortunate run of injuries over the past year.

But on Friday morning, Wenger had good news on his recovery.

“Gibbs is much better than we expected him to be," said the manager. "He will take three weeks.

“I believe it is accidental. I am not worried. He is because, of course, it is very frustrating for a player to be in and out. But when you speak about his future, I am not worried.

"When a player gets injured and has surgery, his body has to adapt to a different co-ordination and it takes some time and there are new injuries.”

He plays as a left back for Arsenal and made his début for the Senior England national team in a friendly against Hungary at Wembley Stadium on 11 August 2010.*
