Wenger: ‘We hope Diaby will not need surgery’

Arsène Wenger is waiting to hear whether Abou Diaby requires surgery to fix his ankle problem.

The French midfielder was injured in a challenge by Bolton’s Paul Robinson on September 11 and, despite playing four times since then, is still struggling for fitness.

Wenger revealed his concern over Diaby when he faced the media at the training ground on Friday afternoon. Later on, the manager continued his theme.

“Diaby is very worrying, yes," said Wenger.

“We hope [he will] not [need surgery] but there is a little piece of bone in his ankle. We hope it will settle down. But at the moment he's not on the pitch.

"He's not been the same since the incident with Robinson. Before he was completely fantastic. He has played since then but was never completely himself."
