Carlos Alberto Vela Garrido was born in Cancun, Quintana Roo (Mexico) at 1 March 1989. Although he is a Mexican and plays for the Mexico national football team, Vela also holds a Spanish passport.

Carlos Vela has great talent, but still didn’t consistent. So it is difficult for him to grab a first choice for Arsenal main squad. Moreover there are good attackers like Robin van Persie, Maroauane Chamach, Theo Walcott, Samir Nasri and Arshavin. Hoping that he could play more to sharpen his game, Vela on load to the West Bromwich Albion since 28 January.

Carlos Vela played an important role when bringing Mexico to be a champion in the 2005 FIFA U-17 World Championship in Peru, defeated Brazil 3-0 in the final.

His brilliant appearance in Peru has made some big European clubs interested in him. But Vela chose Arsenal for a five-year deal in November 2005.

However, Vela can not directly play at Arsenal because of the difficulty of working permits to citizensn of non-EU. Arsenal then loaned Vela to Spanish club Celta Vigo, Salamanca and Osasuna. On 22 May 2008, Vela was granted a work permit that allowed him to play in England. Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger confirmed that Vela would be involved with the first team in the coming season.

Vela made his Premier League debut for Arsenal on 30 August 2008 match against Newcastle United, as a substitute for Robin Van Persie. And in his full debut on 23 September 2008 against Sheffield United in the League Cup, Vela made a hattrick in a 6–0 win, where his second goal voted as one of Arsenal's 50 greatest goals. The game was immediately boosted up Vela who was then 19 years old as a future star of Arsenal.

Injuries meant the Mexican barely got going in the 2009/10 season but he received a couple of significant boosts over the summer.

Vela now wears the number 11 shirt for the 2010–11 campaign, as Robin van Persie has switched to the number 10. On 15 September 2010 Vela scored two goals in the UEFA Champions League when Arsenal beat Portuguese side SC Braga 6–0.

Vela made his full international debut for Mexico in a September 2007 friendly against Brazil when he still 18 years old. On 3 June 2010, he scored his first international goal against Italy in friendly game before World Cup. Mexico won this game 2-1.

He took part in his first World Cup and billions of people across the globe watched as he started in the tournament’s curtain-raiser against South Africa. But had an injured in the first half against France, so he didn’t play when Mexico against Uruguay and Argentina.
